A unique resource-cum-workbook Communication in English for Technical Students is written with the aim of helping technical students studying in polytechnics and engineering institutes acquire the skills of language and communication that they need in order to be successful in their studies, and in subsequent proffesional life. Different in approach from standard textbooks, the book is divided into four sections-Reading, Grammar, Word Formation and Writing-and the teacher can select those units from each of the four sections that are most needed by the class concerned. Being a Workbook the intention is that-as far as possible-students should write answer in this book.

The book is the outcome of a collaborative project between the Technical Teachers' Training Institute, Eastern Region, Calcutta, the Language Studies Unit, University of Aston in Birmingham, England, The British Council Division of the British Division of the British High Commission,, Calcutta, The British Council, London and the Overseas Development Administration, London.

A detailed Teachers' Manual comprising suggested answer and advice on classroom methodology is available to English teachers in Polythechnics and Technical Institutes from : Curriculum Development Centre, Technical Teachers' Training Institute, Block FC, Sector III, Salt Lake, Calcutta-700 064.
